Objective: Students will have an opportunity to reinforce learned water vocabulary by drawing
pictures and playing a game.

Materials: Timer, watch or clock, paper, pens, pencils or colored markers, dice, Puddle Picture
cards

Background: Water is the basic component to every living thing on Earth. Many students are
familiar with basic water concepts: water conservation and preservation, being good water
stewards, taking care not to pollute. Water terminology is an integral part of this knowledge.
With the Puddle Pictures game, they will have an opportunity to use their water knowledge in a
creative manner.

Procedure:
Before the game begins, one player on each team should be designated as a scorekeeper and/or
timekeeper.

Divide the class into teams with a minimum of two students per team. Team members will
alternate drawing and guessing the word on a card.

First turn is determined by each team rolling a die. The team that rolls the highest number gets
the first turn (Team #1).

Play begins when someone (player) on Team #1 draws a card. Each card contains three words.
The player chooses one word on the card and then has one minute to make a drawing that will
make his/her teammates say the word.

At the end of one minute, if the teammates have correctly guessed the word, the team receives 2
points. If no correct guess has been made, the team to the right of team #1 (Team #2) has an
opportunity to guess the word. If Team #2 guesses correctly, they receive 1 point.

The card is placed on the bottom of the pile.

Play continues with each team taking turns drawing and guessing.

Play may be completed either within an allotted time or to a pre-determined number of points.

Additional Rules:
In some versions of this game, the drawer is allowed to write down a portion of a word when
teammates guess it. If this is permissible, this should be determined prior to the start of the
game.

Neither words, letters, numbers nor symbols can be used in a drawing.
